Back to Basics

Black Mesh and Lace Top: Forever 21
Dark Blue Denim: Faded Glory
Black Platform Sandals: SM Parisian Plus
Black and Silver Bangle: C and A

This outfit goes a little back to basics. A black top, good-fitting jeans and comfortable heels (which are so hard to find!) makes for an outfit that would last me the whole day.

Lately, whenever I look for basic pieces in solid colors, I look for ones that could be layered but also stand in itself. That meant either the piece has a really flattering fit or it has details that make it unique and interesting. In this case, the dainty lace trimmings and the mesh part that covered the collarbone had me at hello.

You know that cliche they say about black making you look slimmer? It isn't always the case. BUT, what I do know is that black tends to hide the things you'd want to never see in photos. Like sweat marks during a hot and humid day, which is almost everyday in the Philippines, or bulging spare tires (read: bilbil) that you forgot to suck in before smiling for the camera. Or if you're a messy eater who always finds a drop of sauce or a trickle of coffee spilled onto your top, black is the safest color for you.

Especially on first dates. Believe me. I know from experience.

What's your safe, go-to color?

Hugs,
Belated Bloomer

  1. I have a similar top. :)

I also wear black when playing safe. It's a lot more slimming than other colors.

    1. I agree. I plan on wearing this top with a black lace maxi, but I'm afraid of looking too goth or pang-patay. Haha!
